So it has been quite a while since I last blogged and since I'm sitting here not wanting to study for my class later I've decided it is the perfect time to fix that. To catch you up on the exciting life of Ian, I began the popular workout program called P90X yesterday. Perhaps you have seen the commercials? The first day consisted of an hours worth of countless different types of pushups and pullups followed by 16 minutes of a routine titled the Ab Ripper X. It has been decided that hell is most likely a place where you are forced to do the P90X for eternity yet instead of getting in shape you continue to get fatter and more out of shape as you go. On the menu for today is plyometrics?.. whatever that is I'm sure pain is in store... X!
I would also like to take this time to share with you one of my personal petpeeves. Sadly the story that I'm about to tell you is a common occurrance... The other day while arriving at the cafeteria for breakfast I decided that I would fancy a larger bowl of assorted fruit. While our cafeteria generally serves horrendous concoctions made up of ingredients best left unknown, the fruit salad they offer for breakfast is one choice that you can depend on to be usually decent. It generally contains a delicious assortment of grapes (both green and red), honeydew, cantelope, watermelon..... and pineapple. It is last fruit that is the source of one of my greatest petpeeves that I experience while getting my breakfast. Like many other people, I consider the pineapple chunks to be somewhat of a tasty treasure nestled among the other fruits which are more common in northeast Ohio. However, unlike other people, I do not let my great love for the pineapple overshadow common courtesy and thoughtfullness of others. All too often I am forced to wait my turn in line to get my fruit while some other fruit salad enthusiast with a particular liking for pineapple roots through the mountains of chopped fruit in search of every last piece of pineapple for him/herself. This fervent and lustful display of adoration for the pineapple leaves the fruit fanatics who follow to suffer a breakfast destitute of pineapple. The injustice and gluttony is often times more than I can bear. This is why I now ask whoever is reading this to take into consideration those behind them in line at the cafeteria the next time they are getting their ration of fruit. Take your proportional allotment of pineapple and cherish its presence like the rest of us, but do not horde it all to yourself.
Musical Recommendation:
Artist: Andrew Bird
Album: Armchair Apocrypha
Favorite Tracks: Imitosis, Plasticities
While I have enjoyed Andrew Bird for a while now, I've recently began listening to him a lot again. Lately it has been this album that I have been listening to although I enjoy all his music. I recommend that you check out all of his stuff because his style has changed quite a bit of time but it is all enjoyable.

A Manner of Manners
So today an interesting event occurred. A few friends and I went to check our mailboxes (this is not the interesting part). After facing the regular disappointment of a barren mailbox, I turned and headed for the door to exit. However, when I arrived a girl opened the door politely for her friend and allowed her to exit ahead of her. The girl then continued to hold the door as an apparent offer to hold the door for me as well. In response to this polite gesture I paused in my steps and allowed her to exit ahead of me and as I took the door from her I said "thank you" for her handing me the door on her way out. Thinking nothing of this exchange I continued on my way back to my dorm when the friends with which I had gone to check my mail caught up with me and immediately began to repremand my behavior as having been rude and impolite. I was surprisd by these accusations because I had believed my behavior to have been perfectly polite in that I allowed her to exit before me. However, according to my friends it would have been more polite and acceptable for me to have accepted her orginal offer and to have allowed her to hold the door for me. This led to a debate over which action is the proper polite one when faced with this common situation. I personally believe that when it is a guy holding the door for a girl then she should courteously accept the gesture and exit ahead of the guy. On the other hand, when it is a girl who is holding the door for a guy I believe it is most polite for the guy to allow the girl to exit ahead of him. When it is a guy holding the door for a guy or a girl holding the door for a girl then either response is just as polite. What is your opinion?
Musical Recommendation:
Artist: Lamb
Album: Lamb
My favorite tracks: Zero, God Bless, Cotton Wool, Gorecki, Lusty
If you want to check them out look these songs up on youtube or something. Their music videos aren't always my favorite but I think that the music is awesome. Give it a listen. If it's not your thing don't worry, there are still plenty of musical recommendations to come.
